CHRIST RECRUCIFIED
readings and discussion

The scene is Lykovrisi, a wealthy Greek village in Asia Minor, at the time of Greco-Turkish War of 1919-1922. The people of the village are preparing to put on a dramatic performance re-telling the story of Christ's Passion. The amateur actors, who are ordinary villagers, are studying their roles and trying to enter into the characters of the Apostles, Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Suddenly, a group of refugee Christians from a distant village, arrive at Lykovrisi. How will the inhabitants receive them? What will they do now that they are called upon to put into action the basic principles of their faith?

Readings and discussion in Greek of Nikos Kazanztakis's novel Christ Recrucified. This emotive story of wealthy Greek villagers in Asia Minor re-telling the Passion Play at Eastertime and how the line between fact and fantasy blurs, has a resonance in the current ethical issues facing contemporary Australian Society. Readings will be performed by Anastasia Anastasiades, George Cazoulis, Lisa Diakovasillis, Adrian Kazas, Mary Kostakidis, Kostas Strafiotis, and Alfred Vincent.

This event is convened by the "International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, Sydney Branch".
