NSW Higher School Certificate students who have achieved the highest marks in Modern and Classical Greek are honoured at the annual Dionysios Solomos Awards. These Awards recognise excellence and promote the study of Greek.

The Awards are named after one of Greece's most acclaimed poets, Dionysios Solomos. Solomos' incredible body of work includes the 'Hymn to Freedom' which was adopted as the Greek National Anthem after Greek Independance in 1821.
