The Greek Festival of Sydney relies on generous corporate and community
support annually to stage one of Australia's most important cultural events
touching both first, second, third Greek-Australians as well as an enthusiastic
wider community audience.
Over the last 22 years The Greek Festival has provided a forum for showcasing
a multitude of Greek and multi-cultural expressions. The festival features
the worlds finest Greek-Australian and Greek talent and is the largest
and most prestigious Greek-Australian community event in Australia. The
festival, traditionally a three or four-week celebration, combines high
calibre ticketed events with popular free events such as the festival's
flagship event, Greek Fest Darling Harbour.
Sydney's streets will come alive in celebration of the Hellenic Culture
throughout March and April with The 2005 Greek Festival of Sydney.
This annual initiative of The Greek Orthodox Community of NSW which, every
March, stages an eclectic mixture of events that represent the Greek way
of life and share their rich cultural and artistic heritage with the rest
of Sydney.
Over the past few years the Festival's popularity and profile has grown
considerably and with the recent success of the Greek Footballers in Euro
2004 as well as the historic return of the Olympics to their birthplace
last August - the festival will undoubtedly re-ignite the fervent
patriotism and love of Hellenism that exists in both the Greek and the
increasing number of those from the non-Greek communities of Sydney.
The Festival begins with its traditional flagship event which last year
saw the Brighton Le Sands Street Fair metamorphosise itself into Greek
Fest Darling Harbour. It's unprecedented success allowed more people than
ever before to share the magic of all things Greek. Greek Festival 2004
was touted as the largest community celebration that Darling Harbour has
ever seen and 2005 will be even bigger. We are expecting over 100,000
Sydney-siders to come and join the festivities on March
The 2005 Festival will also feature 28 other events spread across
Sydney covering many different genres including music, theatre, visual
arts, dance, lectures, philosophy, food and children's events.
Thanks you for your continued support and thanks must also go to our
sponsors and the festival volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to
bring you this annual Greek Feast.
Enjoy!!
