Cretan Music Without Borders
A two-hour musical concert displaying the past, present and future of Cretan musical
attributes and qualities. From traditional pieces to compilations of current compositions, an attempt is made to not only revive folkoric music from our cultural heritage, but to give traditional and contemporary Cretan music a different musical complexion, expressively strong enough to continue to progress in the future of contemporary art.
A concert comprising of traditional Cretan folkloric pieces, compilations of current Cretan musical compositions and contemporary anti-war songs. Songs from various Hellenic regions such as Crete, Asia Minor, Cyprus and Macedonia will be performed – together with strong motifs from Greece’s island and Asia Minor musical expression. Themes of the musical pieces are based on traditional elements of Cretan folklore, love, migration and the nostalgic effect of return to the homeland.
The music performed will be presented and expressed in a contemporary modern style, where the Cretan Folkloric Company will be staging in the Antipodes, a vision attempt for what beholds the future of Cretan music.Traditional pieces are to be revived and giventhe dimension necessary for Cretan Folkloric Music to flourish and be transposed to the upand coming younger generations.

Michael Platyrrahos (lyra, lute, mandolin, vocals), George Apostolidis (keyboards, percussion), Angelo Gatsos (keyboards, bass).
