Greek Festival Darling Harbour

The Greek Festival of Sydney in 2007 celebrates a landmark event, its 25th Festival.

The 25th annual Greek Festival of Sydney will launch with a special two day long celebration at Darling Harbour on the 24th and 25th of March. Come and bring your family, bring your appetites and bring your dancing shoes for two days of music, fine food and Greek festivities. Entry is free of charge.

National Independence Day Parade

25th March is a day of Celebration, commemorating Greece’s historic struggle for national independence in the 1800’s. There will be a procession led by students of the Greek Orthodox Community Afternoon & Saturday Schools and culminating in a wreath laying ceremony, poetry readings and traditional dancing. Parade commences 12:30pm from Pyrmont Bridge (south side) and ends at Tumbalong Park.

Tumbalong Park

A fun day full of non-stop entertainment featuring live music from some of Sydney’s finest Greek Australian musicians. Come and see Australia’s best Greek dancing displays and workshops complimented by some of the most sumptuous Greek food in the Southern Hemisphere! There will also be street performers, arts and crafts stalls, sports activities and the chance to win prizes in some hilarious competitions.

Christina Koletsa & Stathis Raftopoulos

From Greece’s fame story

Thanks to our generous sponsor ANT1 Pacific, headlining this year is Greece’s very own Christina Koletsa alongside Stathis Raftopoulos in a performance not to be missed. Performing live free of charge after 6pm on Saturday.

James Kannis

James’ young, effervescent, charming and infectious personality combined with his unpredictable, opinionated, outspoken and mystical demeanour will be featured in this special 25th Greek Festival. James has redefined Pop culture in Australia and his cultural heritage provides an opportunity for this Australian to dazzle and amaze young and old with his voice and unique sound.

Harbourside Amphitheatre

Do you want to dance?

Watch or join in the very best Greek dancing displays in Australia as dance schools from around the country show off their skills and teach a few of their secrets to create an all day Greek Dancing Extravaganza!

Mastic Marquee

Direct from the Greek island of Chios is a treat for all. Mastic Gum (a natural resin from the Pistacia lentiscus tree which is found on the Island of Chios in Greece) is used to create a variety of delicious products and will be available to taste on both days.

The general antimicrobial effect of mastic has been historically known to medical practitioners for thousands of years; now come and have a taste for yourself. We would like to thank the Chios Government, Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association and all other suppliers that helped put this together. Special thanks to Mr. Nikos Nyktas and Ms. Efi Lipari.
