Homer and the Arts
Co-ordinated by Associate Professor Vrasidas Karalis
Department of Modern Greek.

With Professor Margaret Miller - Department of Classical Archaeology, Michael Turner – Senior Curator of the Nicholson Museum and Dr Arhondia Thanos – Oxford University

This series of lectures examines the influence of Homer’s epic poetry on the development of ancient Greek and European artistic creation. The purpose is to present the inspiration that Homer’s works have offered to major European artists in many fields, including poetry, visual arts, novels and cinema in the 20th century.

It will present a panorama of artistic creations from the early Greek vases to contemporary Hollywood productions and will explain the enduring presence of Homeric tradition bridging cultures and centuries.
