Come with us to visit a living museum: Mistra, the last capital of the Byzantine Peloponnese, on its conical hill with a castle at the top and with brilliant churches, palaces and houses on the slopes below.

From 1380, as capital of a Despotate, it was ruled by members of the imperial family of the Palaiologoi; from 1443 to 1449 its Despot was Constantine, who became the last Emperor of Constantinople. Mistra was a great cultural centre, attracting famous artists and men of letters, such as the philosopher Georgios Gemistos, known as Plithon.
