The Greek Festival Of Sydney In Conjunction With Marrickville Council Proudly Present

Rembetika - A Night of Greek Blues

Around 1920, the poor people of urban Greece began singing songs of a special type, filled with complaint and desire, love and bitterness. Many songs speak of an underworld of hashish and petty crime. These songs are known as Rembetika – the Greek Blues.

The origin of Rembetika dates back to the mid nineteenth century. In this special night of Rembetika, artists residing in Sydney’s inner west join together to showcase this infamous music style, performing it with dance in a setting similar to the ones which made it famous.

Featuring music arrangement and direction by Peter Kalandranis.

With Andonis Kekatos, Petros Apostolidis, Steven Linardos, George Nikolopoulos, Christos Kollias, Jim Yianisis, Yiannis Anastasiadis, Michalia Xeilas, Georgette Giatis, Georgios Samartzis, Kate Barnes, Panagiota Bintas, Irini Lantis, Harry Mavrolefteros, Michael Lantis, Antonia Dousakis, Frank Zervas.
