Nikos Kazantzakis was a great admirer of Chinese civilisation. The event will be centred on his impressions from his first visit (1935) and the reception of his work in China.
The program will include:
- Kazantzakis and I, a talk in Greek by the Hellenist Li Chenggui, with summary in English
- Kazantzakis and China, a short talk in English, with Greek summary, by Alfred Vincent
- Extracts from Kazantzakis’ writings on China, read in English by Mary Kostakidis, in Greek by Anastasia Anastasiadis
- Chinese music and songs by Yang Xinyun
Li Chenggui worked for many years in Athens. He has translated Zorba and other books by Kazantzakis into Chinese.
