A presentation by Dr Anthony Dracopouios

As a Greek of the Diaspora, Cavafy developed a unique relationship with both Alexandria - the city in which he spent the greatest part of his life - and Hellenism. In his work, Alexandria is transformed from a cultural periphery to a dynamic new perspective on Hellenism, a position which transcended the existing cultural and artistic context of his contemporaries.

The aim of this lecture is to examine the relationship between Cavafy’s interest in Alexandria and his alternative views on Hellenism.
