The film of an opera, in English, by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu, based on the novel Christ recrucified by Nikos Kazantzakis, the author of Zorba; made for Czech Television, featuring soloists from the Welsh National Opera.
A town is preparing an Easter play on the story of Jesus. Suddenly, a group of refugees arrive, seeking help. Dramatic conflicts follow.Kazantzakis assisted Martinu in preparing the script; however, the opera was first performed in 1961, four years after the Greek writer’s death.
Introduced by Adrian Kazas, President of the Sydney Branch of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis.
